Overview

EBC trek refers to Everest base camp trek. It is the best trekking that lets your step on the base of the highest peak in the world. The snowcapped peaks of the Mahalangur range, Sherpa culture, Mount Everest, and its base camp are the attractions of Everest trekking. 

How long is the EBC trek?

EBC trek is 12 days of trekking from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. We need two days for arrival and departure. Also, suggest buffer days to secure the international flight because the Lukla flight may delay due to bad weather. Therefore, the international trekkers require a minimum of 15 days for trekking to Everest Base Camp. 

What to expect?

The Everest region is an amazing place to explore Mount Everest, diverse landscape, culture, and tradition. The trekking begins after a 25-minute mountain flight to Lukla. You can enjoy the great view of mountains, rivers, Sherpa villages, mane, chorten, and prayers flag from the gate way to Everest. The fresh environment of Khumbu beyond the crowd gives an endless experience that worth it. Spending Overnight in tea house, tasting local food, walking the whole day let you to feel the mountain life.

The budget EBC trek itinerary begins from Lukla that passes through stone paved yards between the Sherpa’s houses. The gateway to Phakding with Buddhist architecture welcomes with its pristine peace. The rocky forest trail, suspension bridges, and bank of Dudhkoshi makes trekking to Phakding more auspicious. Day wise we will keep on walking on the heavenly land of Everest region. Namche and Dingboche are the two places where we will have sightseeing from higher elevation and return to lower elevation for acclimatization. We will hike to Syangboche and Everest view hotel during the rest day in Namche. Hiking to Nagarjuna peak and return to lower elevation occurs during the acclimatization day in Dingboche. Gaining elevation continues to Everest base camp and we will return to Pheriche, Namche and then to Lukla. 

Trekking from Lukla to Everest base camp requires 8 days whereas it takes only three days to return Lukla from EBC. We should walk around 6 hours in an average while gaining elevation. Besides, we may have to walk seven/eight hours while returning to Lukla.

EBC Trek Nepal Itinerary

We will welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport and drop you off at the hotel after your arrival in Nepal. You can take a rest for a while and do your last-minute shopping for the Everest base camp trek. The EBC trekking guide will meet you and give briefing about the trek so that you can prepare well before leaving Kathmandu. We will drive to Charikot in the evening and take rest. It takes around four hours to reach Charikot.

Note: The flood has destroyed the bridge connecting Ramechhap. The alternative route to Ramechhap is very long which takes 7,8 hours to reach Manthali airport, Ramechhap. Therefore, we will drive to Charikot to shorten the route and take rest properly.

It takes around 3 hours to reach Ramechhap from Charikot. We will wake up early in the morning and reach Manthali airport at around 5:30 am. After arriving in Lukla, we will have our breakfast and start the trek to Phakding. It takes around four hours to reach Phakding. You can enjoy the forest trial, riverbank, and Sherpa villages on the trekking route to Phakding.

We will trek to Namche after having breakfast in Phakding. The trekking route to Namche covers suspension bridges, forests, and villages. We will enter Sagarmatha National Park with a Sagarmatha National Park permit. It takes around 6 hours to reach Namche from Phakding. You need to be careful and energetic to complete the ascending pine trial to Namche.

The body will feel uncomfortable with the changing environmental conditions and higher elevation. So, we will go to higher elevations (Khumjung village, Everest View Hotel) and return to lower elevations (Namche) to acclimatize our body. We can get a mind-blowing view of Ama Dablam, Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and other mountains of the Mahalangur range from Khumjung. Also, we will entertain with coffee in the Everest View hotel.

It takes around 6 hours to trek from Namche to Tengboche. The trekking route to Tengboche is best route to enjoy the enourmous beauty of mountains, monasteries and entire landscape. 

Trekking to Dingboche is bit challenging due to thin atmosphere. We can see naked hills with random growth of herbs. The white Himalaya seems closer and more beautiful. Many trekkers experience headaches as a symptom of altitude sickness. Thus, we should walk slowly to reduce difficulties. It takes around six hours to reach Dingboche from Tengboche. 

Today is the rest day for acclimatization. We will do short hiking to Nagarjuna peak. Enjoy the mind-blowing view of Island Peak, Ama Dablam, Makalu, Mount Everest and many more peaks of Mahalangur range. We will climb Nagarjuna peak to gain elevation and return to Dingboche to acclimatize with higher elevation. 

We will start our trek to Lobuche after having breakfast in Dingboche. It takes around six hours to reach Lobuche from Dingboche. The flowing rivers, suspension bridges, mountains and amazing landscape of the route is great to capture in photos and videos. 

Gorekshep is the last destination before reaching Everest base camp. It takes around four hours to reach Gorekshep from Lobuche. We will pass the rocky trial, uphills and slopes on the route to Gorekshep. After having lunch in tea house, we will trek to Everest base camp. The moraine trials, cold breeze, and closeup view of mountains on the route to Everest base camp is beyond imagination. You can enjoy around an hour on the base camp and return Gorekshep for taking rest.

Kalpatther is the best destination for Everest View. You can enjoy the mind-blowing view of Nuptse, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu from Kalapatthar. We will try to reach the Kalapatther before sunrise. It takes two hours to climp Kalapatthar, while it takes 1 and a half hours to descend from Kalapathe to Gorekshep. We will have our breakfast and return to Pheriche for a nightstay.

The descending trial to Namche from Pheriche covers 14.3 km distance. We can reach Namche within 8 hours from Pheriche. 

After having breakfast in Namche, we will start our trekking to Lukla. We should cover 18.2 km long distance from Namche to Lukla which takes around eight hours. The Lukla village is the last destination in the Khumbu region. You can celebrate the success of trekking in Lukla.

We will reach the airport early in the morning and take the flight to Ramechap. We may have to wait until good weather. After reaching Ramechap, we will drive to Kathmandu and take rest. We will have farewell dinner in the evening. Also, you can do the last minute shopping in Thamel.  

We will drop you to Tribhuvan International airport based on your flight time.
