Mount Everest bordered Nepal and China at 27.988121°N latitude and 86.924975°E longitude. Everest expeditions are possible from both Nepal and China. It is the highest peak in the world and overwhelmed the challenging route to the summit, 8848.46 m.
Expedition Mount Everest dates from May 29, 1953, to the present and will continue further. Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Shera were the first men and Junko Tabei was the first woman in the world to summit Mt. Everest. Similarly, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa was the first Nepali woman to reach the Everest summit. After these climbers successfully took the summit steps, different people trained themselves and started following their path. Altogether, 7,264 people had successfully summited Everest from Nepal until July 2024. Yearly, around 800 people summit Mount Everest, contributing to a new record and earning the title of mountaineer.
How to climb Mount Everest?
Climbing Mount Everest has several challenges and risks, but proper preparation, counseling, and the best mountaineering guide make you successful. We should have the best experience, patience, discipline, and strong determination to reach the top of Mount Everest. Returning to the base camp from the summit includes adversity. Thus, you should be careful about every step on the mountain.
You will climb Mount Everest through the prepared route guided by Sherpa. The expedition begins after the Everest Base camp trek. The team reaches the EBC and begins the expedition, following the guidelines. The special clothing, climbing tools and their use, bravery, activeness, and mutual help between the team members are most important to climbing mountains. It takes around 45 days to climb Everest and return to Everest base camp.
The foremost start of the expedition is the arrival in Nepal. Our team will welcome climbers to Kathmandu. You can take a rest and enjoy the best accommodations after your arrival. You will meet your guide and get a briefing on trekking and expeditions in the evening. We will have a welcome dinner in a cultural restaurant.
All climbers will check their gear and buy the essentials required for trekking and expeditions. After leaving Kathmandu, purchasing goods will be expensive. Yes, we can buy gear in Namche as well, but the rate will be high.
We will have a Lukla flight either from Kathmandu or from Ramechap. The mountain flight to Lukla is a great to view the amazing landscape of eastern Nepal. Trevelling to Lukla will be via flight. It takes around 30 minutes to reach Lukla from Kathmandu. Similarly, it takes only 20 minutes for a Manthali-Lukla flight. After reaching the gateway to Everest (Lukla), we will meet our Sherpa team and experts for climbing Everest. The entire team will have breakfast and start trekking to reach Phakding. It takes around 4 hours to reach Phakding. The bank of Dudkoshi, forest trials, and villages are major components of this trekking route.
Lukla flight occurs from Kathmandu in the off season and the flight takes place from Manthali in peak season. It takes 3,4 hours to drive from Kathmandu to Manthali airport in Ramchap,
The trek to Namche Bazaar is moderately more difficult than Lukla to Phakding. We should gain an elevation of 3440 m to reach Namche. It takes 6.7 hours to trek from Phakding to Namche. We will take a Sagarmatha national park permit in Monjo village, enjoy lunch, and continue the trekking.
Altitude gain results in difficult body conditions, therefore, we should take rest to become habitual with elevation gain. We will hike to Khumjung village for amazing views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Manaslu, and many more peaks in the Mahalangur range.
After having breakfast, we will start our trek to Tengboche. Trekking from Namche to Tengboche is the easiest route in Everest region. You can enjoy the enormous beauty of Himalayan range, Monasteries and Gumba. Visiting Tengboche Monastery blessed you with positive energy.
Tengboche to Dingboche trekking is a moderate trek. We should not walk faster to avoid altitude sickness and tiredness. Walking slowly is the most preferred way to be protected from headache. You can enjoy the dry landscape and mountain view with every steps elevation gain.
We will rest and try to adjust to the changing atmospheric conditions with increasing elevation. Day hike to Nagarjun Peak and relax in Dingboche. Rest is important to acclimatize the body. We will gain elevation at Nagarjun Peak and return to the tea house for a night..
Day activity
The trek to Lobuche begins after breakfast in Dingboche. The reduced vegetation, rocky trail, rivers, and wooden bridges are the major attractions of the trekking route to Lobuche.
It takes 3–4 hours to reach Gorekshep from Lobuche. The trekking route encompasses rocky trails, moraines and dry landscape. Gorekshep is the last village providing accommodation during Everest Expedition.
The trek from Gorekshep to Everest Basecamp is the last day of trekking before the Everest Expedition. It takes only 2 hours to reach base camp from Gorekshep. Climbers should stay in base camp and be prepared for climbing Mount Everest.
Climbing Mount Everest takes around 45 days from base camp to base camp. The weather condition and your health are the main factors determining the climbing duration. Acclimatizing the body by gaining altitude and returning to the lower camp is the main strategy for climbing Mount Everest successfully.
Climbing from EBC to Camp I takes around 3–4 hours. After reaching camp I at 6100 m, climbers will set up camp and remain prepared for camp II expedition at 6750 m. We will stay in Camp I until the best weather. Camp II takes around 7–8 hours climbing. Climbers will pass the ice blocks, crevices and snow-covered slopes with the help of rope and ladder, following the expert, Sherpa. The prepared camp will be there for all climbers. Climbing Everest Camp II to Camp III at 7100 m is more challenging. It takes 3–4 hours to reach camp III from camp II. Climbing to a higher elevation and returning down continues until you become comfortable with the raising elevation. Expedition to Everest summit occur from Camp III. We should pass the death zone at 8000 m, where oxygen level is too low to support life. We must use oxygen bottles and we must be very careful. After reaching the summit, we will spend a few minutes on the highest peak of the world and return to camp III. Returning to lower camp is also of high risk, everyone should be patient with changing weather and descend only on good weather conditions. The expedition is completed after reaching base camp.
